CW race overview:
Cheap, Fast, and Not So Easy...Why the name? Our shortest bike course in the series may also be our most challenging from a mental standpoint.
A wetsuit swim...It's out and back along the beach and bulkhead. Very well protected. A west or NW wind and this swim is glass. The fastest transition from swim to bike awaits you, with only 50 feet of beach separating water and bike racks.
Very fast out out of T1 on the bike, with slight bends and tight woods along the roadway for the first mile to amplify the sensation of speed. Blast your way down hill to the bay, and you better be careful on the turns that bring you along the beautiful water's edge, or risk an early end to your race that surely will include an ouch.
On the way back from the Bay on the bike...A hill to remind you why it's called Island Heights. Then fast...Then a grind...Then fast and on to the second loop for another 4+ mile roller coaster. VERY DEMANDING and MENTALLY CHALLENGING, especially if you are racing for hardware. Important for the intermediate and slower speed cyclist to stay right, and pass left.
"Staying alert at all times on this bike course and navigating it smart is an accomplishment all levels will enjoy." CW, Race Director
The 5K run is equally a reminder of the namesake. "Not So Easy" is the hardest course in the series by far, starting with an uphill 3-6 % grind the first mile. Let the middle 3/4 mile of boardwalk run allow you to back off a bit, and you maybe just cost yourself hardware. You get a peek at your competition at the 180 degree turn-a-round...Then it's the hurt up the hill...And "what do you got" down to the finish on the waterfront park.
Do this race, and you have earned your burger. But you'll have to cook it yourself...We call it "Cheap" for a reason! For this race has the least amount of post race pampering in the JS Multi lineup, when you probably deserve it the most! Water and banana to hold you over during the "Cheap" awards and get you home quick for the holiday festivities. A formula I think will make it a tri-cult Jersey Shore classic. CW

Cheap 'n Easy is less pain and about half the distance of the main event, but by no means actually easy. No race is...and there are always risks for any athletic event. There are hills and turns that make this race, (like any other triathlon race), a challenge you must prepare for.
You have to train for this race, understand that. I like it for beginner and intermediate triathletes. Make this your first triathlon, and we'll do our best to make it a rewarding and fulfilling athletic experience.
You go off last so you'll have the bike course pretty much to yourselves, but you have to be there early like the "Not So Easy" racers if you want to park close to the action. Otherwise, the Island Heights Police will ask you to do a lot of walking before you start swimming, biking and running! CW
