Swim:

The point to point swim is in the calm warm waters of Barnegat Bay. The swim start is a short walk down the road from the T1, so athletes should have everything ready to go in transition before heading down for warmup and the start.

It is an in water start, where there is a good chance of standing depending on the tide. Athletes will swim with the orange buoys on the right, and yellow buoys on the left.

(Right), Typical Lava Man water and exit conditions The last yellow buoy is a turn for home and the beach. You can easily sight the big Lavallette water tower to get you to the swim finish

Bike Course:

The Lava Man bike is a three loop course on the divided boulevard along the bay. After exiting T1, there is lane that will direct you to a loop through a neighborhood called West Point Island. You only go through there ONCE!

After coming out of West Point, you hang the right and begin the first of three loops. After you complete your first lap, you will stay on the boulevard instead of exiting for West Point Island and continue for two more laps.

Keep right/Pass left strictly enforced! No Blocking (riding on the left)

The Lava Man bike course is very fast and flat. Be careful of faster riders coming up on your left, and at the 180 degree turns after each long straightaway.

There are no water aid stations on the bike course.

Run:

The Lava Man run course simply trails the bike course on the far right shoulder, and goes one block further than the bike to ensure safe turn a around. Flat and fast, you run 1 loop and exit to the field along the bay to the finish line on the sandy grass just prior to the picturesque Lavallette gazebo.
